Steps to Australia Immigration

Applications for immigration to Australia is administered through online service called Skill Select that was launched in year 2015. I have summarized the process of Australia Immigration along with type of visa that can be applied under it.

Type of Visa 

You need to check whether you can apply for Australian visa and which kind of visa you can apply. Currently following type of visa are offered by Australian Immigration and Border Protection department.
  • Business Talent (Permanent) visa (subclass 132)
  • Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188)
For business persons or entrepreneurs planning to undertake business activity or own a business in Australia.
  • Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
  • Skilled – Nominated (subclass 190)
Skilled Visa Independent (189) and Nominated (190) both are points based visas for skilled immigrants and allows workers to live and work in Australia as Permanent Resident. Sub Class 190 Nominated is for Provincial Nomination.
  • Skilled – Nominated or sponsored (Provisional) visa subclass 489
For applicants who are sponsored by eligible relative in Australia. It allows you to stay in specified region or territory for up to 4 years.
Employers in Australia can sponsor following type of visas
  • Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457)
  • Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186)
  • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187)

It utilizes economic needs model to ascertain number of immigrants required in each profession, thus reducing much of time that was previously wasted on selection of immigrants having best skill sets compared to Australian job market.
Steps to Immigration

1 . Determine you eligibility

Eligibility is two fold i.e. you have to meet minimum score requirements i.e. 60 and your occupation must be desirable in Australian economy.

2. English Language Test

Department of Immigration and Border Protection, Australia accepts one of the following Language Proficiency Tests;
  1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS),
  2. Occupational English Test (OET),
  3. Test of English as a Foreign Language, internet-based test (TOEFL)
  4. Pearson Test of English (PTE) 
  5. Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 
Proficient English Language (i.e. IELTS each module 7 band) earns you 10 points while Superior English (i.e. IELTS each module 8 band) may earn you 20 points in English Language score. Those having difficulty in IELTS score may consider other language tests that are much easier compared to IELTS such as PTE.
IELTS general test module is required for all skills level unless specifically requested. Test results should not be older than three years on the date when visa application started.

3. Qualification Assessment

Get your qualification and experience assessed from recognized assessing authority or body in Australia. Applicants need to submit copies of attested degree, transcript / marks sheet and resume to the respective body in Australia.

The relevant assessing authority determines your equivalency to Australian qualification.

4. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)

Meanwhile, you need to create a user profile and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). While submitting EOI, applicants need to provide basic personal information, education, qualification, language proficiency, work experience and nominated occupation.

Invitation to Apply

Once applicants submit their profile through EOI, candidates meeting skills requirement are invited to apply for Immigration. By that time, you need to get ready your Language Proficiency results, Qualification and Experience assessment from relevant assessing authority, Police Clearance, and Medical examination results.
